Proposed Regulations on Use of Polystyrene Foam
Avon Town Council will conduct a public hearing on January 28, 2020, on the Second Reading of Ordinance No. 19-11 Expanded Polystyrene Ban. The public hearing will be held at the Avon Town Hall, 100 Mikaela Way, Avon, CO, at 5:00 pm or as soon as possible thereafter. Avon Town Council passed First Reading of Ordinance No. 19-11 on November 19th, 2019. If enacted, Ordinance No. 19-11 would prohibit food vendors from using disposable food service ware made of expanded polystyrene (i.e. Styrofoam) when providing prepared food to their patrons by adopting a new Chapter 8.50 of Title 8 of the Avon Municipal Code Establishing Provisions Regarding Ban on Use of Polystyrene Foam.

As mandated by Article I, Section 2, of the U.S. Constitution, every ten years the Census Bureau counts the entire population of the country. The Census Bureau also collects demographic information such as group living situations, sex, age and race of each person. The Town of Avon is considering the future community uses for town-owned properties. The design and planning team, led by Design Workshop, is working with the Town to create land use development and business plans for the sites, providing insight into viable future uses to fulfill Town and public use needs. Capital Improvement Projects
Avon Apartments Located in Village at AvonWork began in late August on a 240-unit apartment complex in Avon and will include one, two and three bed room units. The project is the next phase of the Village at Avon Development which is an 1,800 acre mixed use project. The Avon Apartments project is located on East Beaver Creek Boulevard near Traer Creek Plaza. Total construction time is anticipated to be 20-22 months. Portions of East Beaver Creek Boulevard will be relocated for this project, and the road will reopen by October 5, 2019.
West Benchmark RoadThe Town is working on reconstructing West Benchmark Road and the project includes the addition of 26 on-street parking spaces along West Benchmark Road, sidewalk realignment by Mikaela Way, construction of an underground water quality vault, and drainage improvements to prevent the flooding of the Avon Public Library’s lower floor area. The stormwater quality vault will collect runoff from Mikaela Way, the Recreation Center parking lot and the Avon Town Hall parking lot to remove pollutants before discharging into the Eagle River. The project budget, as approved by the Avon Town Council, is $581,000. The project is scheduled to be constructed in late 2019 and early 2020. There will be impacts to the neighborhood including the temporary closure of Benchmark Road at Mikaela Way, including the intersection.
Old Town Hall DemolitionThe old Town Hall is proposed to be demolished in 2020. Demolishing the building necessitates extending a water main, relocating electrical equipment attached to or in the building that supplies power to the entire park, installation of a new fiber optic line from New Town Hall to the stage, removal of asbestos, and grading out the site. The budget is $600,000.
