Living In

Welcome to Avon!

Known as the “Heart of the Valley” for its geographic location as well as its strong sense of community and family-friendly atmosphere, Avon is a great place for both residents and visitors. Whether skiing, hiking, paddling the Eagle River or enjoying a leisurely day in town, you’ll find that launching your mountain adventures from Avon is easy and convenient.

With 6,500 year-round residents, plus another 3,500 part-time residents, Avon offers a small mountain town atmosphere with many amenities. The town serves as a gateway to the world-class Beaver Creek Resort and is eight miles west of world-famous Vail. Avon also offers a multitude of recreational opportunities, special events, parks, open space and trails, and a mix of local and national shops and restaurants.

Summer Recreation Opportunities

In the summer, the 48-acre Harry A. Nottingham Park offers fun for the whole family. Rent a paddle boat, fish in the lake, walk around the park, or just relax on the grass and bask in the sunshine. In addition, Avon offers many special events like our Salute to the USA, the largest fireworks to display in the Colorado Rockies; Avon’s Annual Egg Hunt; Dunk-n-Dash, a duathlon race series; and Lakeside Cinema, which offers free family movies in the park.

Recreation Center
Across from the park is Avon’s Recreation Center, a 40,000 square foot facility with a 140 foot indoor waterslide, 5-lane lap pool, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, and much more. Looking for a little more adventure? A short walk down the road will bring you to Avon’s new Whitewater Park. The three river features provide beginning, intermediate and advanced surfing opportunities for kayakers as well as a public viewing area.

Winter Recreation Opportunities

In the winter, Avon is a great base for all your snow-oriented activities, including ice skating and old-fashioned pond hockey on 10 football fields worth of glimmering ice at Nottingham Lake. A quick trip on our free Gondola Express shuttle bus will bring you to Avon Station, Avon’s transportation hub, where you can catch the new Riverfront high-speed gondola directly to Beaver Creek Landing. You’ll be on the mountain in just minutes!

Avon’s Renovation Project
You’ll also be excited to hear that Avon is starting a Town Center renovation project, which will bring cohesion to Avon’s town core and provide an urban mountain setting with a pedestrian-friendly environment for shopping, dining, or just enjoying a spectacular mountain sunset.

No matter what time of year you come, Avon is the place to be.
