Participants in this training will be given an advanced set of skills intended to aid in their arrest decision process of impaired drivers that are not impaired by alcohol, but some other impairing substance.
The ARIDE training is not intended to replace DRE training, but rather to augment the DRE program. Officers completing ARIDE will be better able to determine when a driver is impaired by a substance other than alcohol, so that a DRE can be summoned. Also, when no DRE is available, the officer will have enough training to articulate the reasonable suspicion, which can then elevate to the level of probable cause to arrest for DUI-Drugs.
This training also augments the SFST Training, and officers attending the ARIDE training will be required to pass an SFST Proficiency examination before being allowed to complete ARIDE training.
The dates for this training have been scheduled for November 17th and 18th, 2009 at Westin Riverfront Resort in Avon. Class will begin at 8:00 am and conclude at 5:00 p.m each day. Participants may self park at the Westin Parking Garage or use the complimentary valet parking service. Class size is limited to 25 students, and enrollment will be taken on a first come basis and is limited to Eagle County Peace Officers or Prosecutors charged with trial responsibilities for DUI charges.
