Harry A. Nottingham Park Master Plan

On Tuesday, December 9, the Harry A. Nottingham Park Master Plan will be presented at the Town Council meeting for a public hearing and adoption by Town Council.  The goal is to create a new master plan which incorporates public opinion in conjunction with the new Main Street corridor concepts approved by the Town of Avon.

The public process began in the Spring of 2008 with a stakeholder group meeting to discuss potential changes and subsequently included three public meetings and a community survey.  The survey was useful in not only gathering input from Avon citizens, but helped to ascertain the most used areas in the park, the highest needs for improvements, and items missing from the park.

The Master Plan contains recommendations for improvements by zone, key to the zone map, and a conceptual master plan map detailing each priority zone identified in the park, with the high priority areas encompassing mainly the northeast section of the park (east family picnic/play area).  New improvements contemplated in the plan include:  new group picnic pavilions and restrooms, a fishing pier, a shallow wading area with water feature at the lakeshore, new pathway lighting, new kids and tots playground equipment, and various other improvements.  Improvements to the park are planned to take place in phases over the next three to five years
