Lake Street

IMG_3011_thumb_thumb.jpgLake Street, a new roadway from West Beaver Creek Boulevard to Riverfront Lane directly east of Town Hall, is completed and open to the public.  The street consists of a new roadway alignment, sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, utility and drainage infrastructure, and on-street parking.  A portion of Lake Street will evolve into the intersection with Main Street.  The intersection will consist of a large public plaza that will serve as a primary focal point, meeting point and an overlook into Nottingham Park

Lake Street contains abundant and interesting landscape features including beam stones, gabion baskets, perennial flowers, turf areas IMG_3012_thumb_thumb.jpgand street trees.  The street utilizes the latest in efficient drip irrigation systems to reduce water consumption, and includes two transit stops for Avon’s ever-growing bus system.  In addition to emphasizing transit, the street was designed to prioritize the pedestrian experience, with signage, crosswalks, and sidewalks connecting key areas.  The Main Street plaza intersection will complete the last remaining east/west pedestrian corridor and will serve as the link from the West Town Center District to Nottingham Park. Site furnishings complement the design, and the lighting levels are designed to provide a pleasant and safe pedestrian experience.

Also included in the project scope was a large parking lot adjacent to the Recreation Center on its north and east sides.  The old Recreation Center lot on the west side of the building will remain open until Main Street construction necessitates its closure. Additional ADA-accessible parking spaces were added to the west side of the building to better serve the Recreation Center's disabled patrons.

Lake Street is the second project in the West Town Center implementation; creating new, exciting and attractive public infrastructure to catalyze a redevelopment effort in Avon's town core. The project was funded by the Avon Urban Renewal Authority, whose goal is to build community and transform Avon into a sustainable, transit-oriented, live-work-play downtown benefiting locals and visitors alike.
